Thinking to win at cheltenham festival 2012
The key to making long term profits when betting on any sport, is to back selections when they are undervalued and therefore overpriced offering more value than the real chance occurring. The year of 2009/10 at Cheltenham was a good lesson surely to all. The hardest, wettest season experienced by many trainers for decades turned the form book on its head. But so many did not take heed?
At the start of the week, there were at least four deemed certainties! It is prudent, as the week showed that actually you can find virtually no such thing as a certainty at Cheltenham and those wise enough to draw their own conclusions were the individuals that laughed all the way to the bank!
Remember, we are talking about the 'World Cup' of jump racing. Virtually every horse that is running has been tuned to perfection by way of the trainer and regardless to what many believe sometimes the less popular names can bring you home the moolah. The under priced and over- backed favourites obtainable tremendous value with other selections, after all they simply be slightly off form themselves on manufactured for the bigger priced second or other favourites to win!
If you follow what the papers say you will not find any value as so many blind punters will be following these selections that even when they win they're just not representing value! Cheltenham is the best week to 'shop around' for value. Never with the racing calender can you find better horses running to suit your needs at such crazy prices! Therefore blindly backing the even or odds on favourites isn't an fast route to profit, and this year many punters fell foul of the results.
The weather over the winter meant that not only could some of the form be taken with a pinch of salt, but the very least be viewed as untested. Time and again horses that were not considered by many at Cheltenham only had to be trained on during the spring and in that case show massive improvement on the better ground to take a few of the biggest races at the festival!
